Little Legends: Fates Series
Fall 2020 - Winter 2020
A series of 3D modeling/3D animations of the latest little legends from League of Legends!
I've been an avid League of Legends player for a while and when the latest Fates Little Legends were released, the trailer video with the three of them jamming together as a band was so charming that I had to try making it.

First time texture painting, using seams for UV unwrapping, stencil patterns, improved workflow.
Modeled, textured, and animated in Blender
Choncc

Choncc is the soft and squishy drummer of the Fates band, slapping its belly and bouncing it's round tail on the ground to the sick beats. Choncc is not too different from the past characters I've made for the Adventure Time series, just a couple more extrusions for the face blobs and extra loop cuts for the sharper nails and horns.

This is the first model I texture painted! I really wanted to get it right so I looked up a bunch of videos on marking seams for better UV unwrapping, digital painting tutorials, and general tips and tricks about Blender's texture painting tools. If you keep scrolling, I attached my texture image at the bottom where things are grouped up much better than if I just used default unwrapping. I found a turnaround from one of the artists from Riot (Tommy Gunardi Teguh!!) who worked on these little legends which was super helpful to get all the details in. Check out the pics below for the final back view of the model as well as a turnaround + UV unwrapped image texture.

Umbra
First up is Jake the Dog! This was the first character I've ever made -- I mainly made objects and props before this, so I learned a bunch from this project! Jake is pretty blobby, so this model is basically just a sphere with a couple of extrusions for appendages + facial features.
I watched a bunch of youtube videos about weight painting and rigging as well as parenting objects (facial features to the body) in preparation for this model. I modeled the mouth using Blender's Shape Keys, allowing it to transition between two states (open and close), which made for a basic rig that can get the point across. The scene that I chose to animate was one that could put a smile on my face every time I watched it in the show -- the scene were Jake was born. The moment he came out, he did this little dance that captured the essence of his character super well, a happy, goofy, appreciative lil pupper, that I tried to replicate here.

Umbra is the baddie bassist of the Fates band, bringing out the undertones and adding in a dash of groove to their music. This is my first step into more complex characters, the horns and wings have lots of details and it took me a while make the hair look more natural as well.

I did this one immediately after finishing up Choncc, so I had a little more experience this time and made a separate metal texture map as well! I found yet another turnaround from one of the artists from Riot which helped a lot with the details on the hair and the patterns on the wings. Check out the pics below for the final back view of the model as well as a turnaround + UV unwrapped image texture.
